When you use SettleSmart, we collect information that you voluntarily provide to us:
- Account Information: When you register or sign in using email, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In, we collect your name, email address, and profile photo (if provided).
- Household & Expense Data: Information you enter to manage shared living, including expense amounts, expense titles, categories, dates, split proportions, and chore lists.
- Device & Technical Data: Device tokens for Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver push notifications (such as space invites, chore alerts, and settlement requests).
Financial Credentials Disclaimer: We do not collect banking credentials, credit card numbers, or real bank account numbers. SettleSmart is an expense calculator and ledger; it does not process direct bank wire transfers or financial transactions.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected solely to provide, operate, and maintain SettleSmart:
- To authenticate your account and keep your data secure.
- To synchronize expenses, balances, and chores in real time between you and your household members or friends.
- To send notifications for space invitations, chore reminders, and settlement updates.
- To provide personal budgeting and spending analytics for your own account.
3. Third-Party Services
We integrate with trusted third-party service providers that process data on our behalf under strict privacy and security standards:
- Supabase: User authentication, cloud database storage, and real-time data synchronization.
- Google Firebase & Google Play Services: Google Sign-In authentication and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) push notifications.
- Sentry: Real-time crash diagnostics and performance telemetry to detect and fix software exceptions.
4. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures:
- All data transmitted between the SettleSmart mobile application and our backend servers is encrypted using industry-standard Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS).
- Access to personal household data is restricted to authenticated members of that specific space using Supabase Row-Level Security (RLS).
5. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. You have full control over your data:
- You can leave spaces or delete expense records at any time directly within the app.
- You can request complete deletion of your account and all associated data by navigating to Settings > Account Management > Delete Account, or by emailing us at our support address. Upon request, all your personal data will be permanently deleted from our database.
6. Children's Privacy
SettleSmart is not directed to individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under 13.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any updates will be posted directly to this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
